Nutrition Counseling

Being overweight and trying to stay in shape is not only a problem for humans. Pets also need to be put on specific diets and workout plans to stay in good health. There are a number of deficiencies that pets can run into in regards to nutrition that must be observed.

By keeping your pet on a proper diet and workout plan, it can increase their life expectancy by up to 2-3 years. In addition to the extended life expectancy, you will also see a happier pet with fewer stomach issues, less sensitive skin and a nicer coat.   Keeping your pet at an ideal body condition score also helps prevent diabetes and decreases formation of arthritis.

Upon evaluating your pet's current nutritional condition, we will make specific recommendations as to the type and amount of food and treatsyour pet should be eating as well as any supplements. In addition, we'll provide you with a workout program for your pet that will keep them in tip top shape!

We generally recommend a good quality dry food approved for your pet's appropriate life stage fed twice daily.  For kitties, we recommend a combination of canned food and dry kibble- as many cats do not ingest enough water on a dry diet only.  I prefer foods where the first ingredient is a meat or meat meal and without artificial colors.  It is not necessary to feed organic or grain free diets unless your pet has been diagnosed with an allergy of some sort.   If so, the grains are not usually the problem, the pet needs a limited ingredient, novel protein diet.   It is never recommended to feed people food on a regular basis as severe nutritional deficiencies can result.
